West Nile Districts Showcase Talent and Unity Through Football Tournament in South Sudan

West Nile communities in South Sudan are promoting unity and district pride through a football tournament, as Maracha appeals to MPs and well-wishers for sporting equipment ahead of its Saturday fixture against Arua City

JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN — West Nile communities living in South Sudan are using sports to promote unity, strengthen cultural ties and raise the profile of their respective districts through an ongoing district football tournament organised by the West Nile Association in South Sudan. The tournament has brought together teams representing various districts from the West Nile sub-region, providing an opportunity for communities to showcase sporting talent while strengthening relationships among Ugandans living in South Sudan.

Participating teams include Yumbe, Koboko, Ma’di, Terego, Arua District, Arua City and Maracha, with the competition generating enthusiasm among players and supporters.

In the opening fixtures, Arua District defeated Yumbe District 1–0, while Koboko District secured a similar 1–0 victory over Ma’di District. Attention now turns to the upcoming fixture between Maracha District and Arua City, scheduled for Saturday, as Maracha prepares to make its mark in the competition.

Maracha Appeals for Support

As other districts continue supporting their teams, organisers and representatives from Maracha District are appealing to Members of Parliament and other stakeholders to support the team with essential sporting equipment.

The requested support includes team uniforms, footballs, training materials and other sports equipment needed to facilitate preparations and participation in the tournament.

The appeal is directed particularly to Members of Parliament representing Maracha District, with organisers calling on well-wishers and leaders to engage their offices and consider supporting the initiative. The tournament demonstrates how sports can bring West Nile communities together beyond geographical boundaries, creating opportunities for teamwork, talent development and district pride among residents living in South Sudan.
