TIKA Reaffirms Uganda Partnership with Support for Yumbe Farmers
Turkey's development agency pledges continued investment in Yumbe's cocoa farmers and ACOSED students, declaring the district "like our home".

YUMBE, Uganda - The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has reaffirmed and deepened its development partnership with Uganda, announcing renewed support for cocoa farmers, vocational training and education during a colourful presentation of agricultural tools and vocational training materials in Yumbe district.
The handover ceremony underscored the growing relationship between the West Nile district and the Republic of Türkiye, with the agency signalling that its engagement in the area is set to continue.
Speaking at the event, Mr Murat described TIKA as Türkiye's premier governmental humanitarian agency, noting that it delivers its programmes with the operational flexibility of a non-governmental organisation.
A global agency with deep African roots
Outlining TIKA's global footprint, Mr Murat said the agency operates 65 coordination offices worldwide, including 22 across Africa, with a presence in Kampala as well as Ethiopia, Tanzania, Djibouti and Somalia.
He said TIKA's programmes focus on health, education, capacity building, agricultural development and vocational training, adding that the agency is able to move quickly from technical study to on-the-ground implementation.
Pointing to the support TIKA has provided to ACOSED since 2023, Mr Murat said the partnership has strengthened the organisation's capacity and is now producing "tangible results in the field".
He highlighted recent engagements with cocoa farmers in Yumbe district, noting that projects planned during earlier visits are beginning to yield benefits for local communities.
'Yumbe is like our home'
"This is not the last time we are coming. Yumbe is like our home," Mr Murat said, pledging continued investment in the district.
He also stressed the importance of preserving farmland to ensure long-term productivity, urging communities to safeguard resources so they can be passed on to younger generations.
Mr Murat acknowledged recommendations presented by the Prime Minister of the Aringa Kingdom and said TIKA will evaluate those inputs as it shapes future programming.
He closed by congratulating ACOSED students on their progress and reaffirming TIKA's commitment to sustained collaboration in Yumbe and beyond.
