KAMPALA — Osmara Digital Media brought the concerns of refugees in West Nile to the centre of discussions during a press conference at Platinum Hotel, Nsambya, Kampala, ahead of the East Africa Fire and Anointing Conference.

Introducing his first question, the Osmara Digital Media journalist said: “I want to take my question home to West Nile because I come from the West Nile region.” He said he had witnessed the difficult conditions facing refugees in the region and described the humanitarian situation as “indeed pathetic,” particularly in Bidibidi and Imvepi refugee settlements in Yumbe District.

The journalist welcomed the humanitarian work of Dr. Michelle Corral, particularly her support in feeding refugees in Bidibidi and Imvepi. He then asked: “I want to take my question home to West Nile because I come from the West Nile region. I have seen how refugees are suffering, and the situation is indeed pathetic. We are happy that Dr. Michelle Corral is feeding refugees in Bidibidi and Imvepi. Beyond this support, what other programmes or interventions is this event taking to Yumbe to support refugees?”

The question sought to establish whether the conference would extend its impact beyond spiritual activities and provide additional humanitarian support to refugees in Yumbe.

Responding to the concerns, Dr. Ernest Benjamin Kivumbi, President of Heal the Planet Global, said Dr. Michelle Corral is committed to continuing her humanitarian support for refugees in Bidibidi, Yumbe.

Dr. Kivumbi highlighted Corral’s support for vulnerable refugees, including food assistance, as part of her wider humanitarian commitment.

Osmara Media Questions Africa’s Persistent Challenges

Osmara Digital Media also raised a second question about the role of Christianity and the Church in addressing Africa’s development challenges. The journalist noted that Africa has thousands of houses of God and millions of Christians, yet the continues to face serious social and economic problems, including unemployment, corruption, insecurity and poverty.

The journalist asked: “Africa has thousands of houses of God and millions of Christians. Why is it that the continent continues to face serious social and economic challenges such as unemployment, corruption and insecurity?”

The question challenged the speakers to reflect on whether the Church can do more to address practical problems affecting African societies. It also highlighted the need for faith-based institutions to combine spiritual ministry with practical interventions that respond to poverty, unemployment, insecurity and other challenges facing communities.

Main Conference Set for Monday The press conference was held ahead of the main East Africa Fire and Anointing Conference, with the main function scheduled to take place on Monday. The conference is expected to bring together religious leaders, Christians and other participants for prayer, worship and discussions on faith, transformation and the future of Africa.

For Osmara Digital Media, the questions were aimed at connecting the conference’s spiritual message with the realities facing people on the ground, particularly refugees in West Nile.

The focus on Bidibidi and Imvepi also placed the humanitarian needs of refugees in Yumbe within the wider conversation about the role of faith and humanitarian action in addressing Africa’s challenges.
