Kamuli Police Seize Government Drugs, Medical Equipment Marked ‘Not for Sale’

KAMULI — Police in Kamuli District have seized a quantity of suspected government drugs and medical equipment marked “Government of Uganda – Not for Sale” during an operation in Kamuli Municipality. The operation followed intelligence received by Police concerning the alleged illegal possession and suspected sale of government medical supplies in the area.

According to Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson Samson Lubega Kagogola, officers moved to verify the information and subsequently conducted searches at premises identified in connection with the allegations.

During the operation, Police recovered assorted medicines and medical equipment bearing government markings and suspected to have originated from official government medical supply channels. A government refrigerator was also impounded from a motor vehicle suspected to be connected to the case.

Police arrested Nangobi Lydia, who is currently assisting investigators as they work to establish how the medical supplies came into the possession of the suspects.

Another suspect is reportedly still at large, prompting Police to intensify efforts to trace and apprehend the individual. The motor vehicle believed to be linked to the incident has also been impounded. Preliminary investigations have further established that some of the recovered medicines were expired. Police are working with relevant health authorities to establish the source of the supplies, how they were diverted and the circumstances under which they were allegedly stored and offered for sale.

The investigation also involves the National Medical Stores (NMS), National Drug Authority (NDA) and other responsible authorities, which are expected to help verify the recovered medicines and equipment and establish the full chain of accountability.

The recovered items have been documented, sorted and secured as investigations continue. Police have warned members of the public against buying, possessing or dealing in government medical supplies bearing the “Not for Sale” label.

Authorities have also appealed to anyone with information regarding the illegal diversion, possession or sale of government medical supplies to report to the nearest Police station. The suspects remain subject to Police investigations as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged diversion of government medical supplies in Kamuli.
