Leku James Pilli Wins NRM Primary for Adjumani West MP By-Election

ADJUMANI — Leku James Pilli has emerged as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election after narrowly defeating his closest challenger, Anyama Ben, in the party’s primary election.

According to results published by Benz Media and contained in the official NRM Declaration of Results dated September 3, 2026, Pilli secured 9,336 votes (37.2%), while Anyama Ben followed closely with 9,152 votes (36.4%).

Pilli won by a margin of 184 votes, setting the stage for him to represent the ruling NRM in the upcoming parliamentary by-election. The declaration was signed by Chandmale Amos, identified in the results document as the NRM District Elections Officer/Returning Officer for Adjumani. The document also bears the NRM Electoral Commission district registrar's stamp dated September 3, 2026.

With the primary concluded, Pilli will now carry the NRM flag into the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election scheduled for September 17, 2026. The closely contested primary, particularly the 184-vote margin separating Pilli and Anyama, highlights the competitive nature of the NRM contest ahead of the main parliamentary race.

The development was first reported by Benz Media, which described the announcement as the emergence of the “white smoke” from the NRM offices as the party concluded the process of selecting its candidate.

The Adjumani West race now moves into a new phase, with Pilli set to campaign for the parliamentary seat under the NRM ticket.
