KAMPALA, October 30, 2026 – More than 300 suspects have been arrested in a series of intelligence-led security operations conducted by Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) in collaboration with other security agencies to combat criminal activities ahead of the festive season.
The coordinated operations were conducted on October 28, 29 and 30, 2026, across several policing divisions within the Kampala Metropolitan Area, targeting suspected criminal gangs, drug and substance abuse, and identified criminal hideouts.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the operations covered several areas, including Katwe, Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala, Kabalagala, Wandegeya, Kira and Jinja Road, among other locations identified as crime-prone areas.
The crackdown focused primarily on suspected criminal elements, particularly individuals allegedly involved in drug and substance abuse and other activities associated with criminal gangs and networks.
Police said the operations resulted in the arrest of more than 300 suspects and the recovery of several exhibits believed to be connected to criminal activities.
All the arrested suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. They will undergo the necessary police screening procedures before being processed and presented before court in accordance with the law.
The operations form part of Kampala Metropolitan Police's intensified efforts to dismantle criminal gangs, disrupt criminal networks and prevent activities that threaten public safety across the metropolitan area.
With the festive season approaching, security agencies are strengthening their operations to address potential security threats and ensure the safety of residents, business communities and visitors.
Kawala called upon members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
She reaffirmed the commitment of Kampala Metropolitan Police and other security agencies to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
