WEST NILE, UGANDA — West Nile MSME Week 2026 kicked off today, Thursday, October 29, bringing together entrepreneurs and business stakeholders for a two-day engagement focused on business growth, access to finance, green enterprise and job creation.
Running until Friday, October 30, the event provides a platform for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to explore business opportunities, strengthen partnerships and discuss practical solutions to challenges affecting enterprise development across the West Nile sub-region.
The opening day's activities feature an official ceremony, an exhibition tour, business dialogues and master classes aimed at equipping entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and connections to strengthen their enterprises.
A key highlight is a dialogue titled “Making West Nile MSMEs Green, Competitive and Decent Job-Creating,” which focuses on sustainable business practices, competitiveness and the role of enterprises in creating employment.
Participants are also engaging in discussions on access to finance and financial management, addressing challenges that often limit small businesses' ability to expand, manage resources effectively and sustain growth.
The event also provides opportunities for entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services, access business support clinics and connect with potential partners through business-to-business (B2B) meetings. On Friday, discussions will focus on green enterprise, decent work, market access, branding and digital marketing. A session bringing together local government and private-sector stakeholders is also scheduled to explore ways to strengthen collaboration in support of business development and economic growth.
The programme further includes proposed Lugbara dialogue sessions, offering an opportunity to engage participants through local-language discussions.
Small businesses play an important role in supporting livelihoods and creating employment. By bringing entrepreneurs and other stakeholders together, the event seeks to encourage knowledge-sharing, strengthen business relationships and identify opportunities for enterprises to become more competitive in local and wider markets.
Abima Swabiri is the man behind the organisation of West Nile MSME Week 2026, an initiative bringing attention to the opportunities and challenges facing entrepreneurs in the region. His involvement in the initiative places him at the centre of efforts to create a platform where business owners can exchange ideas, build networks and explore pathways to sustainable growth.
As the two-day event continues, attention will be on the discussions, connections and opportunities emerging from the gathering, particularly those that could help West Nile's MSMEs grow, create jobs and contribute to the region's economic development.
Osmara Digital Media will continue to follow developments from the event and report on issues affecting businesses and entrepreneurship across West Nile.
