MASINDI, Uganda — The Patriot League of Uganda (PLU) is stepping up its grassroots mobilization campaign in Masindi District, with coordinators taking the organisation’s message of patriotism, accountability and civic empowerment closer to communities.

The mobilization is being led by Masindi District PLU Coordinator Jackson Byabakama, who said the initiative is aimed at building a strong and informed grassroots movement through engagement at the town council, division and sub-county levels.

Despite heavy rainfall on Saturday, August 22, 2026, residents and PLU coordinators turned up in strong numbers for a preparatory meeting at Devenue Hotel, where participants discussed strategies for expanding the organisation’s presence across the district.

Byabakama described the turnout as encouraging, saying it demonstrated growing interest in the PLU and its objectives. “We are intensifying grassroots mobilization, and I want to thank the people at the sub-county level for embracing PLU,” Byabakama said. He explained that the formal launch of PLU activities in Masindi will be held after communities have been fully engaged and have gained a clear understanding of the organisation’s objectives.

Beginning next month, the core PLU coordinators in Masindi will embark on an extensive tour of town councils, divisions and sub-counties to engage residents and share the organisation’s ideology and programmes.

The campaign will focus on key messages, including the fight against corruption, promotion of patriotism in schools and empowering citizens to understand their civic rights and responsibilities.

Byabakama said the grassroots approach will give residents an opportunity to understand the purpose of PLU and participate actively in its activities. “Through these mobilization campaigns, everyone will know why PLU exists and why it is important to join it,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to Minister for Local Government Balaam Barugahara and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, for what he described as their commitment to the fight against corruption.

According to Byabakama, the renewed focus on accountability and public service has helped strengthen confidence and restore hope among many people.

The Masindi mobilization drive is expected to continue bringing PLU closer to communities, with coordinators emphasizing unity, patriotism, responsible citizenship and collective action as key pillars of the campaign.
