President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is among 20 distinguished medalists who will be honoured as Uganda commemorates 64 years of independence on October 9, 2026, at State House Entebbe.
The national occasion will mark 64 years since Uganda attained independence from British colonial rule on October 9, 1962, providing an opportunity for the country to reflect on its journey, achievements and aspirations for the future.
The recognition was confirmed by Hajjat Zamina Malole, Chancellor of the Presidential Awards Committee in the Office of the President.
President Museveni will receive the Order of the Commander-in-Chief (Uganda Prisons Service Medal) in recognition of his leadership and contribution to peace and security.
The Presidential Awards Committee said the honour is conferred on heads of state and heads of government in recognition of visionary leadership and efforts to advance peace and security within their countries, the East African region and Africa.
The award is provided for under Section 3(2), Second Schedule, Part I of the National Honours and Awards Act, 2001, as amended.
The presentation of the medals will form part of the official Independence Day programme, bringing together national leaders, dignitaries and invited guests to commemorate Uganda’s 64 years of independence and reflect on the country’s continued journey of nation-building.
