UJU Congratulates Kyabazinga on Coronation Anniversary, Commends Royal Support for Media Freedom

KAMPALA, UGANDA — The Uganda Journalists Union (UJU) has extended its congratulations to His Majesty William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, on the occasion of his coronation anniversary, commending his leadership and support for the media fraternity.

In a message issued on behalf of the union, UJU National dePresident Ms. Evelyne Nalule recognised the Kyabazinga’s contribution to unity, regional development and institutional dialogue, describing his reign as an important period of cultural and socioeconomic engagement in Busoga.

UJU Appreciates Royal Support for Journalists

The union expressed appreciation for the Kyabazinga’s open-door approach and support for the fourth estate, highlighting the importance of communication, access to information and constructive engagement between the traditional institution and media practitioners.

According to the statement, journalists operating across the Busoga sub-region have benefited from opportunities for communication and engagement with the Kingdom, which the union considers important to strengthening professional journalism and public information.

UJU further emphasised the significance of a safe and enabling environment in which journalists can perform their duties responsibly, freely and in accordance with professional standards.

Recognising Busoga’s Development Priorities

Beyond its appreciation for media support, the union acknowledged the Busoga Kingdom’s role in promoting initiatives connected to education, vocational skills development, modern agriculture, environmental conservation and community health.

The statement highlighted the importance of equipping young people with practical skills, encouraging tree planting and commercial farming, and supporting initiatives aimed at improving community livelihoods and healthcare accessibility.

UJU said these priorities reflect the broader need for collaboration between cultural institutions, government agencies, development partners and communities in advancing socioeconomic development.

Call for Continued Partnership in Regional Transformation

As the Kingdom commemorates the Kyabazinga’s coronation anniversary, the Uganda Journalists Union called for continued efforts to promote wealth creation, environmental protection and local industrial development in Busoga and Uganda at large.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga to communicate development initiatives, preserve cultural heritage and report objectively on the Kingdom’s activities and achievements.

“Journalists across Uganda remain firmly committed to partnering with the Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga to amplify the Kingdom’s developmental agenda, preserve its cultural wealth, and report objectively on its milestones,” the statement said.

Prayers for the Kyabazinga

UJU concluded its message by extending prayers for the Kyabazinga’s good health, wisdom and peaceful reign alongside the Inhebantu.
