Namutumba District Local Government has launched the rehabilitation of two roads in Bulange and Ivukula sub-counties to improve connectivity, ease transportation and support economic activities.
The District Engineer, Eng. Harriet Babita, announced the planned rehabilitation of a 14.35-kilometre road stretching from Nawansagwa through Bugobi to Kyabakaile while addressing residents during a community meeting at Nawandyo Trading Centre in Bulange Sub-county.
Babita said the engagement meetings with residents and other stakeholders were intended to promote transparency and keep communities informed about the planned works, emphasising that maintaining roads was a shared responsibility.
“We are going to rehabilitate more roads in the district to enhance connectivity and ease transport,” she said.
However, she raised concerns about practices that contribute to road damage, particularly the movement of heavy trucks transporting sand and the dragging of ox-ploughs along road surfaces.
“When we rehabilitate these roads, heavy trucks transporting sand damage them within a short period. Additionally, some of you drag your ox-ploughs along the road. I therefore call upon all of us to take collective responsibility in ensuring that these roads are maintained,” she added.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Resident District Commissioner Dorothy Natambi, Musomesa, who represented Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, the Chief Administrative Officer, the Labour Officer, the Forestry Officer, the District Roads Inspector, Hon. Nakisita Betty, a representative of Hon. Joel Waiswa, District Chairperson Mukisa David, District Speaker Wakudumira Basangwa, LCIII chairpersons of Bulange and Bugobi, and other stakeholders.
Ivukula Road Also Set for Rehabilitation
The district also launched the rehabilitation of a 3.7-kilometre road running from Kimenyuro through Nkono to the junction of the former Ivukula Police Post in Ivukula Sub-county.
The launch took place at Nkono Memorial Primary School.
Namutumba District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Nakisita Betty, who also chairs the District Roads Committee, urged local leaders to sensitise residents on protecting road infrastructure.
She emphasised the importance of good roads in boosting economic activities and easing transportation for communities.
Deputy Resident District Commissioner Waiswa Paul called on residents to work with local leaders to support the effective implementation of government programmes.
“Community, when you have any concerns regarding the roads, please contact the District Engineer, Harriet Babita. She will respond. She is here to serve you,” Waiswa said.
District Chairperson Mukisa David Kalulu Mulondo reassured residents that more roads across the district would be rehabilitated during the current financial year.
