FROM THE NEWSROOM TO THE THRONE: UGANDA JOURNALISTS UNION CONGRATULATES HIS MAJESTY OMUKAMA EDWARD RUKIDI NYABONGO I

The President of the Uganda Journalists Union (UJU), Evelyne Nalule, has extended warm congratulations to His Majesty Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, popularly known as Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, following his colourful and historic coronation as the 15th King of Tooro Kingdom.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of UJU and the wider media fraternity, Nalule described the coronation as a significant moment for the people of Tooro and Uganda’s cultural heritage. “On behalf of the Uganda Journalists Union and the entire media fraternity, I extend our warmest congratulations to His Majesty Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I on his historic coronation,” Nalule said.

She noted that the occasion carries particular significance for journalists because of His Majesty’s previous connection with the media fraternity through his work with the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).

“His Majesty’s journey from the newsroom to the royal throne is a remarkable chapter that resonates deeply with journalists and media professionals across Uganda,” she said. According to Nalule, journalism provides practitioners with valuable experience in listening to communities, communicating with diverse audiences, documenting society and engaging with issues that affect ordinary people. She said His Majesty’s media background offers a unique connection between the journalism fraternity and Tooro Kingdom, particularly as the Kingdom continues to promote its cultural heritage and engage with communities, development partners and the wider world.

“His Majesty’s experience in journalism gives him a valuable understanding of the importance of communication in society. We are proud that someone who has been part of our profession has now taken on this important cultural leadership responsibility,” Nalule said.

She further noted that His Majesty’s journey demonstrates the diverse paths through which members of the journalism profession can continue serving society. The UJU President said the Union looks forward to strengthening the relationship between the media fraternity and Tooro Kingdom in areas including responsible journalism, cultural heritage, tourism, education and community development.

As His Majesty begins his reign, Nalule wished him wisdom, strength and success in his service to the people of Tooro. She also congratulated the royal family, cultural leaders and the people of Tooro Kingdom on the successful coronation. “From the newsroom to the throne, His Majesty’s journey remains a proud chapter in the story of Uganda’s media fraternity,” Nalule said.
