62 SFC Officers Decorated After Promotion to New Ranks

Sixty-two officers of the Special Forces Command (SFC) have been decorated following their promotion to new ranks, in recognition of their service, commitment and professional conduct. The officers, comprising 15 senior and 47 junior officers, received their new ranks during a ceremony held at SFC Headquarters in Entebbe and presided over by the SFC Commander, Maj Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru.

Congratulating the promoted officers, Maj Gen Nyakikuru reminded them that promotion comes with increased responsibility, accountability and expectations. He urged the officers to lead by example, maintain discipline and professionalism, mentor junior personnel and continuously acquire new knowledge and skills to remain adaptable to the demands of modern military operations.

The SFC Commander further challenged them to use their new responsibilities to enhance operational readiness, training, physical fitness and professional competence while strengthening cohesion within their respective formations. SFC Deputy Commander Brig Gen John Bosco Asinguza urged the promoted officers to exercise authority with courage, humility, justice and restraint, emphasising that higher rank comes with greater accountability.

“Your strength will matter a lot, but most importantly, your character upon the rise in the ranks will matter even more,” Brig Gen Asinguza said. He also recognised the contribution of the officers’ spouses and families, noting that their sacrifices, prayers and continued support provide an important foundation for the officers’ service. Speaking on behalf of the decorated officers, Lt Col Nicholas Kagaba, Commander of the 17th Field Engineers Brigade, thanked the UPDF leadership for recognising their service and pledged the officers’ continued commitment to serving Uganda with loyalty, integrity, discipline and courage.

He encouraged fellow officers to use their new authority to develop themselves, mentor those under their command and contribute to strengthening the UPDF. The ceremony was attended by the Director of Human Resource Management, Col Night Ikiriza, who read the citations, alongside SFC group and brigade commanders and their deputies, directors, officers, non-commissioned officers and spouses.
