Central Africa Battles Fastest-Growing Ebola Outbreak in History

Central Africa is facing its most serious public health emergency as the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) battles the world's fastest-growing Ebola outbreak, with cases spilling across the border into Uganda. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, for which there is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment. According to the latest reports, more than 2,500 confirmed cases and over 1,000 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak was declared in May 2026.
