Osmara Digital Media Team Survives Global Bus Accident, Two Lugbaras Discover Each Other After Close Call

Members of the Osmara Digital Media team have narrated their terrifying experience after surviving a road incident involving Global bus registration number UAZ 247E along the Masaka Highway.

The team was travelling back from Mbarara after a media tour focused on exploring regional cities, their development, strategic importance and opportunities for communities when the incident occurred at Buyaaya.

The bus's front tyre went off the road, forcing the driver to struggle to control the vehicle. The bus continued moving for nearly 300 metres, leaving passengers shouting in fear as they worried about what could happen.

Passengers said the driver appeared to make efforts to regain control of the bus, a move they believe helped prevent a more serious tragedy.

"The bus drove for almost 300 metres after the tyre went off the road.

Everyone was shouting because we feared for our lives, but the driver tried to control it and minimise possible fatal cases," a passenger said.

The incident, which initially caused panic among travellers and people near the highway, ended safely, with all passengers coming out without injuries.

A second Global bus from the same company arrived about 45 minutes later to pick up the stranded passengers and continue their journey.

For Draga Osman, a member of the Osmara Digital Media team, the experience also came with an unexpected moment of connection. He discovered that another passenger involved in the incident was also from the Lugbara community.

Draga said he initially thought he was the only Lugbara passenger on the bus until he heard another traveller speaking Lugbara while narrating the incident to relatives in Arua.

"I thought I was the only one, but I was surprised to hear Lugbara language. The passenger was narrating the accident to his relatives in Arua in Lugbara. That is when I realised we were two Lugbaras who had travelled on the same bus without knowing each other," Draga said.

He described the moment as special, saying the two only discovered their shared identity after surviving the frightening incident.

"How we felt realizing we were two Lugbaras only came to know ourselves after the accident was something special. We went through the same experience and later discovered we shared the same language and background," he added.

The Osmara Digital Media team thanked Allah for protection, saying the incident could have ended differently but everyone survived safely.
